After arriving in the French-speaking region of Geneva, Switzerland, we headed out to one of the most notable sites of the city: UN Geneva! After a year of utilizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within our work in the Global Citizens Project, Brianna and I were so excited to see this mural that brightly showcases all of these 16 goals at the site where these goals are used to make global changes toward a better future!

See all 16 goals below, and click on the graphic to learn more!

SUSTAINABLE GOAL SHOWCASE - Goal 4: Quality Education

Of all the listed Goal 4 targets, the most relevant target to goals of this site is:

"Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, nonviolent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all"

After taking a grand tour of the facilities in UN Geneva, the two of us discussed some details of our trip of a lifetime while applying these invaluable SDGs! See our captioned ASL discussion below.

Video Transcript:

Hello there! My name is Brianna Greene.

Hello and welcome! My name is Nicky Macias.

The two of us are GCP students from USF. Guess where we are?

We're here in Geneva, Switzerland at the United Nations!

As you can see, we were VIP visitors during our tour here today.

We truly experienced a focal point of the Global Citizens Project today.

These are the UN Sustainable Development goals established some years ago.

We want to continue applying these goals around the world.

Now is the perfect opportunity to talk about these goals more in-depth since we are here.

Which goal do you feel you experienced most closely from today?

Well, I think #3 Good Health and Well-Being is important.

We've been walking all around since arriving here in Europe!

It's really made me feel rejuvenated and healthy.

I'll also get the chance to encounter Health & Well-being here in Switzerland because I am unfortunately sick and will have to seek medical services.

I'll then be able to compare my experience with American health care.

I also really think #4 Quality Education is really important.

When we took a tour of the UN, we learned so much about the world, culture, and so much more.

It was really the best part of the day.

We definitely learned the most today out of all of the days on the trip so far.

The entire day was filled with learning!

Yes! I feel like most other European countries in general, but especially Switzerland, place a higher focus on Affordable & Clean Energy and energy saving technologies.

Right, Switzerland is very mindful of the importance of recycling and environmental sustainability.

They tend to not be wasteful, and trash must be properly collected and disposed of.

From what I've seen, it is a very clean country all around, especially in Geneva.

Of course, another very important goal is #16 Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions which relates to Partnership for the Goals, the ultimate vision of the UN.

Many different countries congregate here to discuss important things that happen in the world and find solutions to issues.

What's an interesting fact you learned today?

Well, the UN is not actually the first intergovernmental organization of the world.

The first was actually the League of Nations, established by President Woodrow Wilson many years before the UN.

The UN took over after the League of Nations infrastructure collapsed.

Very interesting.

Something I had no idea about before that I learned today is that all of the road signs around the entire world are discussed and decided upon here at the UN.

That's right, very long and intense deliberations go on here.

Thank you for watching, and we hope you enjoyed!

Again, I'm Nicky,

and I'm Brianna.

Thank you for watching and Go Bulls!

See you soon, Switzerland!
